Fireflies Talk vs. Wispr Flow (2026): Pricing, Features & Verdict

Voice dictation has quietly become one of the fastest-growing productivity categories of 2026. Wispr Flow raised $280M this year on the promise that talking beats typing. Fireflies Talk arrived with a different premise: dictation shouldn't be a separate subscription at all.

Both tools do the same core thing. Hold a key, talk, and clean text appears wherever your cursor is. Email, Slack, docs, CRM fields, anywhere you type.

This comparison covers pricing, features, platforms, and privacy, based on both companies' public pricing and product pages as of September 2026.

The Short Answer: Which One Should You Use?

Choose Fireflies Talk if you work mostly at a desk, you want unlimited dictation without paying for it, or your team already uses Fireflies. Talk offers unlimited dictation on every Fireflies plan, including the free plan.

Choose Wispr Flow if you dictate heavily on your phone, or you want power features like custom dictionaries, snippets, and per-app tone presets, and $12 to $15 per month is worth it to you.

The biggest single difference is the free plan. Wispr Flow's free tier caps you at 2,000 words per week on desktop. Fireflies Talk has no cap on any plan.

Pricing: The Free Plan Math

Here's where the two products genuinely diverge.

Wispr Flow is free for 2,000 words per week on desktop (1,000 on iPhone). Unlimited dictation starts at $12/user/month billed annually, or $15 monthly. Team plans with admin controls run $18 to $23 per user.

Fireflies Talk is included in every Fireflies plan. The free plan includes unlimited dictation. There is no separate dictation charge on any tier.

So what does 2,000 words a week actually buy you?

Wispr Flow's own site says people dictate at 220 words per minute. At that speed, 2,000 words is about 9 minutes of talking per week. In email terms, it's roughly two short emails a day, with nothing left for Slack, docs, or notes.

That's fine for trying dictation. It's not enough for using it. Anyone who makes dictation a habit hits the cap within a day or two and lands on the paid plan. For a 20-person team on Wispr Flow Pro annual, that's $2,880 a year for something Fireflies includes at $0.

Pro tip: If your company already pays for Fireflies, you may already have unlimited dictation and not know it. Open the desktop app, go to the Dictation tab to set up your mic and shortcut, then hold Fn (Mac) or Ctrl + Win (Windows) and talk.

Platforms: Desktop vs. Everywhere

Wispr Flow wins on mobile today. It ships a dictation keyboard on both iOS and Android. Fireflies Talk launches on desktop first, on Mac and Windows, with a mobile keyboard coming soon. iOS is already in testing.

If most of your writing happens on your phone and you need dictation there this month, Wispr Flow is the better fit right now.

If most of your writing happens at a desk, in email, Slack, docs, and your CRM, both tools cover you. That's also where the volume is: the long messages that make dictation worth it mostly get written on a laptop.

Dictation Features

Both tools produce clean text you can send as is. You don't say "comma" or "period." You talk normally, and punctuation, capitalization, and cleanup happen automatically.

Wispr Flow has been a dedicated dictation product for over two years, and the polish shows:

  • Custom dictionary that learns names and jargon
  • Saved snippets
  • Tone presets (formal, casual, very casual) that adapt per app
  • 100+ languages with automatic detection

Fireflies Talk launches with the core experience:

  • Hold Fn (Mac) or Ctrl + Win (Windows) to talk, or double-tap for hands-free. The shortcut is customizable.
  • Works in any app, types at your cursor
  • Formats for where you are: an email comes out like an email, a Slack reply like a Slack reply
  • Say a teammate's or group's name in Slack and Talk turns it into an @mention.
  • Optional screen context, so names and terms on your screen get spelled right
  • 90+ languages
  • Clean, formatted output with no cleanup step

If you need dictionaries and snippets on day one, Wispr Flow has them and Fireflies Talk doesn't yet.

Privacy: Where Your Dictations Live

This is the difference most people miss.

Fireflies Talk stores your dictations on your own device. Dictations are stored on the user's device. Fireflies doesn't keep a copy, and no one else at Fireflies or in the user's workspace can see them. Dictations are never used to train models. Fireflies is SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant.

Wispr Flow is a cloud product. Your dictation history lives in their cloud, with data-sharing controls in settings.

There's a second difference worth knowing about: AI training. Fireflies never uses your dictations to train AI models, on any plan. On Wispr Flow's own pricing page, "model training control" is listed as a feature of the Growth plan ($18/user/month), and "locked-off model training" as a feature of Enterprise. On the free and Pro tiers, that control isn't listed.

Both companies hold SOC 2 Type II. Wispr Flow adds ISO 27001 and offers HIPAA on its team plans. But if the question is "who can read what I dictated, and what gets learned from it," on-device storage and a no-training policy are the shorter answers.

The Notetaker Question

Wispr Flow launched a meeting notetaker in August 2026. Fireflies has been a meeting notetaker for five years, used by more than 20 million people.

Why does this matter in a dictation comparison? Because both companies are betting you'll want one tool for voice at work: what gets said in meetings, and what you write between them.

One of those companies is adding notes to a dictation app. The other is adding dictation to the platform your meetings may already run through. If your team already trusts Fireflies with meetings, Talk is an extension of a tool you've vetted, not a new vendor to review.

Where Wispr Flow Is Genuinely Ahead

An honest comparison has to give Wispr Flow its wins:

  • Mobile. Shipped on iOS and Android. Fireflies Talk's mobile keyboard is coming but isn't out yet.
  • Dictation depth. Dictionaries, snippets, per-app tone. Two-plus years of polish.
  • Languages. 100+ vs. 90+.
  • Team admin at lower tiers. SSO and org-wide HIPAA enforcement arrive at $18/user on their Growth plan.

Wispr Flow is a good product. The case for Fireflies Talk isn't that Wispr Flow is bad. It's that most people shouldn't need a second subscription to stop typing.

Verdict: Fireflies Talk vs. Wispr Flow

Pick Wispr Flow if you're a heavy mobile dictator or a power user who wants every dictation feature that exists, and the subscription doesn't bother you.

Pick Fireflies Talk if you write at a desk, want your dictations kept on your own device, and would rather have unlimited dictation included in a tool you may already use than pay $144+ a year for a separate one.

Already paying for both Fireflies and Wispr Flow? That's the real takeaway of this post: you're paying twice for one of them.
